Welcome to the Carraignamuc School
of Self Help

Hi, thanks for taking the time to visit our website.
We’re here to give you the knowledge and confidence to create a sustainable outdoor living space for yourself.
At the Carraignamuc School of Self Help we want to show you in a practical way the how to’s that will save you money and give you a sense of acheivement when you go home and do it for yourself! We will show you how to create a sustainable enviroment that benefits you, your pocket, your health and your wellbeing.

Beginning in March 2010, we will be running teaching sessions, set up in weekend modules some spread over the growing season offering a large variation in skills to others specialising in just one skill and lasting just a weekend.

We’ll be running a month by month introduction into polytunnel and raised bed
growing where you’ll first learn how to build both, then discover the joys of the yearly journey from the seed to your plate as a mouthwatering fruit or veg.
This course will include basic landscaping skills such as stonewall building, paving, decking, block and bricklaying, all being learnt in parallel with growing and raising your own fruit and veg.

Weekend courses will include regular modules in stone wall building, covering many different aspects of the trade. Modules will include dry stone walling, building using lime mortar, building stone piers, fireplaces, garden walls etc. There are many projects at Carraignamuc and students will get an opportunity to put their own signature on them then leave with the skill and confidence to do it for themselves.

Other weekend courses will include Raised bed polytunnel
construction, various aspects of 'hard' landscaping(ie, paving, block/brick and cobblelaying), constructing chicken runs etc with many more planned for the future.

The Carraignamuc School of Self Help is located in the scenic Wicklow hills on the Wicklow Way only an hours drive from south Dublin and 45 mins from Carlow. We can organize local hostel, b&b or hotel accommodation. All courses will include wholesome homemade lunches comprising as much on site and local produce as possible with the added attraction of an optional Saturday evening meal, local scenic walks, a soak in a hot tub or horse riding lessons for the craic.
